Adoptions

Do you have the empty space in your home and heart for a new pet? Looking for a kitty to cuddle on the couch, a pup to hike the Hill Country with, or a snake to slither around as you game? You've come to the right place! Animal Ark has a pet for everyone who is ready to make that life-long commitment!

Fosters

Animal Ark relies on having homes for animals to recover in, whether that be a bathroom for a young kitten to recover from an eye surgery, a dresser-top tank for leopard gecko stablizing from MBD, or a yard and crate for a older dog to gain weight and heal from skin issues, we are grateful for every foster that donates their time and love to the cause

Donations

Your donations enable us to do what we do! Everything from food to toys is appreciated, and we can always use help to get our vet bills paid! The links below connect you to our Amazon wishlist, our Chewy wishlist, and our Paypal

Adoption Requirements

Commitment

Animal Ark requires for Adopters to understand that animals are a longterm commitment. In the case of some of the species we rescue, life spans range from 10 to 40 years! Consider what it will take for you to keep this animal through out it's life. Are you prepared for it?

The Oldest known Ball Python was 62 years old!

Knowledge

At Animal Ark, we require adopters to research the care required for their specific animal and we are hear to help you do it! When interested in adopting a reptile we recommend reptifiles.com for up to date husbandry information. For dogs, we recommend researching the suspected breeds to see what you can expect. Adopting a bulldog mix is a very different level than adopting a shepherd or heeler mix! AKC.org has information on the most common dog breeds in the USA and is a great place to start your research!

Pet-friendly retail stores are a great way to socialize a young dog, but theyre also pretty welcoming to exotics!

Patience

Last but not least, we at Animal Ark ask you to have patience. Both with us, and with your rescue pet. Rescue animals often come from unstabled enviroments. This can lead to undesirable behaviors that need understanding and training to work through. Animal Ark will help as much as we can through the adjustment period, but patience is key to helping these animals find comfort in routine.

3-3-3 is the rule to go by with a new pet! 3 days to settle in, 3 weeks to be comfortable, 3 months to start experimenting!

Containment

Containment is important for all pets! The majority of animals that arrive at Animal Ark, get here because of a containment breach at some point in their lives. Animal Ark does not not believe in allowing any animal to roam freely (including cats!) so containment is important for adoption! For some species, containment is their enclosure or tank, for others, its a fence or catio, and others its a leash whenever they leave the house. What containment is depends on the pet, but it's very necessary to keep your critter at home where they belong

An average outdoor cat's life span is 6-8 years. An indoor cat's life span is 15-18 years!

Veterinary Care

At Animal Ark, we know pets need varying levels of care. A bearded dragon may not require annual veterinary visits but it is still important to have a veterinarian in case of emergency. We require all dogs and cats to see a veterinarian annually and keep up to date on vaccinations and preventions.

The standard DHLPP vaccine covers Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parvovirus, and Parainfluneza

Spay/Neuter

The majority of dogs and cats will leave Animal Ark altered, meaning they cannot be bred. Occasionally there will be animals who are physically incapable of surviving surgery, and they will have a veterinary note explaining why.
Other species such as snakes, and lizards, are typically not spayed due to the high risk of reptile surgery, but they will be under a "no breeding" contract, as their lineages are unknown and as a   rescue we do not believe breeding these animals would be responsible.

Cats and Dogs can be altered as early as 2 months old as long as they weigh at least 2 pounds!
